Building a body care routine

Start with the basics: a gentle body wash, a good moisturizer, and sunscreen for exposed areas. You do not need a 10-step body routine.

For dry skin: look for body creams (thicker than lotions) with shea butter, ceramides, or colloidal oatmeal. Apply within 3 minutes of showering when skin is still damp to lock in moisture.

For rough patches (elbows, knees, feet): chemical exfoliants with lactic acid or urea work better than physical scrubs. Use 2-3 times per week, then moisturize.

Body acne: use a body wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Shower after sweating. Change out of gym clothes quickly. Do not use the same towel on face and body if you are breakout-prone.

Fragrance in body products: fine for most people, but if you have eczema or sensitive skin, choose fragrance-free. The skin on your body can react just like your face.

Do not forget hands and feet. They show age fast. Keep hand cream by every sink. Use foot cream with urea at night with socks for soft feet by morning.
